While reading I noticed the author used the word “outdoor intervention” to describe Licia’s yarnwork and really felt drawn to that word choice. The idea that she is intervening in the outdoors – shaking up her surroundings and altering her environment – really resonates.
I also noted that her original inspiration were colorless trees during the winter months. As if nature dared her to create with color. Fascinating.
Having recently moved from Davis, CA to Decorah, IA, I can relate to the power of the winter gray scale. What I like about the yarn-bombing of trees is the way it brings all of the strange objects into view in a way that heightens the deep alienation that separates the wool, the animals from which it was shorn, the dye powders and water and emulsion, the tree, the knitting needles, the camera, the servers, the sap, the Buenos Aires air…
